LOCAL IT company Basis Bay Group recently launched its Internet portal for the trading of pre-owned, refurbished and new hardware equipment. The eBasis Bay portal, which cost more than RM1 million to set up, offers a wide range of hardware including mainframes, servers, desktop PCs, notebooks, and service parts sourced mainly from countries within the region.
The company's CEO, Praba Thiagarajah, said that given the current business environment, investment in technology equipment has become a complex and critical business issue. Thus the option of procuring refurbished or pre-owned equipment has become a compelling and viable alternative for business and technology managers. In addition, with the launch of the eBasis Bay portal, companies can now compare prices of new, pre-owned and refurbished equipment before making any purchasing decisions that may affect their IT budget.
Products purchased via the portal will include after-sales support such as installation, configuration, customisation, testing and maintenance which are carried out by the company's staff. Other value-added facilities that are available through the portal include access to in-country logistics services which are provided by DHL, Transware Logistics and Envoy. The company is also in negotiations with third party leasing and financial organisations to make available financing facilities for qualified customers.
The company has made available prices and other information for all the personal computer equipment that are listed on the website, and buyers and sellers can deal directly with each other to complete the transaction. However, details and pricing for enterprise computer products will only be provided to registered and authenticated users of the portal.
Companies and individuals who want to dispose of their excess personal computer equipment can do so by listing the details on the portal for free. The offer is valid until 31 December 2003, and the company said that it may consider charging a fee for listings from next year onwards.
